How To Make Your Own Windscreen For The Beach

 

 In order to make a 6 foot wide windscreen you will need the following:

·        3 poles at least 6 feet long in ½ in. to 5/8 in. in diameter (these can be found at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. in the garden section)

·        2-3 yds. of  Supplex or rip-stop nylon, 45 in. to 60 in. wide

·        9 Velcro tie strips

·        Utility knife

·        Marker

·        Measuring tape

 

On a flat surface lay out the fabric and place one of the poles about 2 in.  from the edge.  Wrap the fabric over and temporarily secure it with tape.

 

A couple of inches from the pole make a mark, continue to work your way down halfway and repeat the mark and again at the bottom.  Use the utility knife to cut each mark parallel to the pole.  Roll the pole towards the mark.  Identify which side will be the top of the screen and position the pole so that it extends out an inch or two from that side’s edge.

 

Remove the tape and push a Velcro tie though one slit and around the pole.  Secure it to itself and repeat this step with the other two slits.

 

Take the other end of the fabric and fold it over so that it meets the end you already finished.  The center of the fabric panel can now be easily located.  Take another pole and lay it on top of the doubled over fabric along the folded edge at the center.  Roll this pole with the fabric wrapped around it, approximately one full turn.  Temporarily secure it with tape.

 

A couple of inches from the pole make 3 marks as you did with the first pole.   Use the utility knife to make slits thru both layers and use a Velcro to secure them.

 

Take the unfinished edge and bring it back over the top of the center pole.  Lay the fabric flat and repeat the marks and the slits as you did with the first 2 poles.

 

 

How To Prevent Injuries

 

Nudist are known for being health conscious but even the healthiest of people sustain sports injuries.  Keep in mind that as the body grows older it becomes less flexible and weaker.  Bones become more brittle and sudden jolts can easily throw things out of whack, that is why exercise should be slow and controlled until the muscles are warm enough.  Having more/stronger muscles around a bone will actually reduce the risk of break, fractures or slipping joints out of alignment.

 

Most injuries actually occur from not warming up prior to exercise.  Anyone with arthritis can probably tell you that when the body is cold, it is harder to move.  Sneezing with a cold body can actually send pain shooting throughout.  When the body is warm, it is more tired but very loose and easier to move.

 

Stretching or stretching with too heavy of a weight can also cause injury.  For instance, some men will use a weight machine like the "pec fly," they extend their arms apart further than the body is ready for at that weight.  Another mistake is to not stay focused on a weight move and turn your head to see the pretty blond walk by.  Just moving your head ever so slightly can pull a muscle in your neck even though you are using a weight machine for the arms.  Stretching can warm up the muscle making it more flexible, but no amount of stretching will help you if you are using weights that are just too heavy for your level.
